By Becoming a Good Leader

If you are new to network marketing and want to build a successful team, then the first key to building a successful network marketing team is to develop and strengthen your own leadership skills so that you can coach and empower your team members to do the same.

"As a leader you understand that the foundation of building a successful network marketing team begins by building a strong team of enthusiastic and self–motivated people."

Below you will find many suggestions on how to strengthen your leadership skills and become a good leader.

Creating an Attraction List

Building a network marketing team is similar to building a team in a corporate office.

You want to recruit people that will be a good fit on your network marketing team.

How do you know who will be a good fit for your team?

You can begin by creating an attraction list. For example, you could write down that you would like to attract team members that are self–motivated, goal oriented, displays integrity, and of course, fun.

Your list may also include visionary type people that also have a passion for helping other people be successful in their business by sharing their skills, knowledge and experience with others.

List any traits that you believe would be beneficial to have in a team member.

Speaking with Potential Recruits

When you initially speak with people that express an interest in joining your network marketing team you will want to begin by asking them questions about themselves and their current situation.

You don't need to pry or get into specific details.

A general understanding of what they are currently up to as well as their goals and plans for the future will help you to understand if your network marketing business will fit into their life, as well as develop into a long term relationship between you and them and your business.

Remember, you are looking for people that are going to stick with the business and your team for the long haul.

Next, when approaching people that you may meet at networking events, trade shows, or even social get–togethers, you want to speak with people that already have an interest in building a business and being their own boss, and who already understand the benefits of building a network marketing business.

Speaking with people that associate negative thoughts with network marketing is a waste of both your time and theirs, and doing that too often will eventually wear you down.

Coaching Your Team

As new people join your team you will want to coach and assist your team members on how to become strong leaders and how to create and build their own successful teams.

Share your tips and ideas as examples of what they can do to attract their own new team members so that they can build their own successful network marketing team.

All About the Business

Educate each one of your team members in regards to the business, the benefits of the products that they are promoting and the compensation plan so that they can feel confident in operating their own business.

Teach your team members how to present your specific network marketing business to new prospects.

Explain that no one knows all the answers, and that if they get stuck you or someone more senior, can be there to support them, either in person or on the telephone.

This type of telephone call may remind you of the dreaded term "3 way call".

Typically people do not like a 3 way call because they feel like they will be pushed into making quick decisions that they may not be ready for.

This is not the case.

A 3 way call is not meant to be a pressure tactic.

It is simply a way to ensure that all questions are answered, which in turn allows your new prospect to make an informed decision about whether or not they wish to join you in your network marketing business.

Next, take some time to walk your new team members through the process of setting up their new business.

If your network marketing business offers an online back–office, then take new members through a tour of what they can find in there and how to use it to their benefit. Show them their options in ordering business cards, product information, as well as ordering new products.

Also, if the owners of your company or the top producers have online webinars or telephone meetings that everyone can attend, then ensure that your team members know exactly when those meetings are and how they can access them. This is especially important if you plan to create an International team.

If your company offers each distributor a personal website, then show them how to customize and personalize their website.

By that we mean that some companies allow online shopping through each distributor's website so that each distributor does not have to place orders for all of their clients. If your company offers that option, then review how that works with your new team member.

Explain to your team that a distributor website is not meant to be used to attract new business. Although it may, sometimes. The real point of a distributors website is so that your current customers can go online and order and reorder your network marketing products without the help of their distributor. This is a real time saver and encourages repeat business.

Also, explain to your team how they can each setup their own website or blog to attract people to their business by leveraging the power of the Internet.

goal setting

Goal Setting

Have each of your team members write out their short and long term goals in regards to building their business, including their income goals.

Offer to meet with them either face to face or over the phone to review their goals so that you have an understanding of what they want to accomplish. Talk about how you can work together to help them achieve their goals. Also, use this time to see if there are any specific areas within their business that they may need more information on and assistance with.

Communication

Introduce your team members to one another (either in person or online) so that they can get to know each other if they wish to. This is something that is often overlooked, especially if your team members are all over the world.

As your team grows, consider having weekly team meetings to discuss goals, accomplishments, hurdles, and anything new within the company that you belong to.

Encourage regular communication, interaction and support amongst all of your team members, no matter what their level of productivity is, or where they live. This may require some creative scheduling, but it will be well worth it. Remember that you can use online communication tools such as Skype to keep your long distance call fees to a minimum.

Create a sense of team spirit where everyone feels like they belong and are happy to be part of your network marketing team. Ensure that you include your entire team regardless of how productive or non–productive they are. A non–productive team member may feel alot more motivated once they know and understand that they have the support of their leader and their entire team.

Marketing

Provide each new team member a copy of your marketing plan and marketing strategies for them to duplicate.

Encourage and respect creativity in terms of marketing the products and attracting new team members, including face to face meetings, as well as options on the Internet, such as social networking, attraction marketing, etc.

Mentoring

Check in with your team members on a regular basis to ensure that they are excited about their business and that they are in fact achieving their goals.

You also want to make sure that they have the tools that they need to grow their business. You can use this as a time to share any motivation techniques, personal development skills or books that you think they may benefit from.

Always ask what you can do to help them.

Maintaining Focus

It is very easy for people that work at home to become distracted by other things around them, such as their family, household chores, etc.

Encourage your team to maintain their focus on their network marketing business by adopting time management skills that will allow them to build their business, and have time for their family and their home.

thank you card

A Simple Thank You Goes A Long Way

No matter what size of a team you build, large or small, remember to acknowledge and thank your team members on a regular basis for all of their hard work.

Their accomplishments are building their business as well as yours.

Encourage your team to do the same with the people on their teams.

People like to feel like they belong, and if they stop hearing from you, or rarely hear from you, they may wonder what is going on, or perhaps feel unimportant.

Your Availability

Lastly, make yourself available to your team. Make sure they know how they can get in touch with you and when you are available to take calls or reply to emails.

If you are away on vacation or simply unavailable for a period of time, make sure they know that as well.

There are many keys to being successful in network marketing. I believe that one of the most important ones is to build strong relationships with both your team members and your clients.

Many people view network marketing as a difficult type of business to operate.

However, if you follow the tips above on building a successful network marketing team, I think you will find that network marketing can be quite an enjoyable type of business to operate, as well as profitable.

"Motivation is everything. You can do the work of two people, but you can't be two people. Instead, you have to inspire the next guy down the line and get him to inspire his people."
