This year I have received quite a few emails from people asking me for information on how they can start an online business. They want something that is easy to setup and does not require a huge investment of money.

First of all, is it even possible to start a legitimate business online? Yes, of course it is possible, and there are a variety of different businesses that you can start.

Remember that starting an online business is not the same as finding a job online. Finding a job online should not cost you any money. Building a business, whether online or offline, may require start–up costs. It all depends on the type of business you choose to start.

One of the easiest and most interesting online businesses that people are starting this year is to launch their own online affiliate store. This is not like eBay where you sell your own stuff. This is an affiliate store that you setup to sell products supplied by other businesses.

Why are people starting online stores? People are starting these online stores because it is easy, quick and fun, and requires very little online experience.

Below are the 7 easy steps that you can follow to start your own online store today.

1. First, it is important to select a specific theme for your online business.
   
   Stores that specialize in a specific category of products do much better than online one–stop shopping malls.
   
   The affiliate stores that I really like are the ones that offer pre–designed templates that are easy to use.



2. Click and scroll through the different types of pre–designed affiliate store themes and find something you are interested in.
   
   One of the things that drives more traffic to these stores is that you can add written content to your store to describe products and promote them.
   
   You can also write about your theme in general and offer tips and useful information. This will not only attract people to your online business, but it will also make your store more popular with the search engines because search engines love content, especially something that is providing a solution for people that are searching the Internet.



3. Click on the theme that you like and then click on Demo 1, 2 and 3 to see the various pre–designed templates that you can use for your online business.
   
   Using one of these pre–designed templates will allow you to start your online business even if you have very little experience with the Internet.



4. The products in each of these affiliate stores are sold and commissioned through various affiliate programs. That means that you will receive a commission payment everytime someone buys a product from your online store.
   
   Before you launch one of these stores you will need to join the affiliate program that is associated with the store that you select.
   
   To find out which affiliate programs you need to join, you can click on the Affiliate Programs tab that is shown at the bottom of each individual store. There is a link for the required affiliate program in that tab. Follow the link to the affiliate program and fill out their application. You should fill out the application and wait to be accepted before you purchase your affiliate store.
   
   If you are already a member of the affiliate program you can move on to the next step.



5. Costs: There are 2 separate costs involved in setting up this online business.
   
   One is the one–time cost of purchasing the pre–designed affiliate store.
   
   The second cost is the annual Webhost fee for the domain name that you will need for your store.
   
   Look at the affiliate store that you would like to start and it will tell you how many credits the store costs.
   
   Before you can buy the store and the pre–designed features, you will need to purchase credits. You can either purchase one–time credits, or if you think you will build more than one store, you can buy a monthly membership. Once you have your credits, you can purchase the store of your choice.



6. Setting up your online business: After you purchase your online affiliate store you will receive instructions on how to set it up.
   
   You will be able to adjust any colors and design features to your liking. Tweak and customize the look of your store.



7. Now you can begin to add products to your store based on the affiliate programs that you were required to sign–up with.
   
   You can also add written content to your store that is specific to the theme that you selected.
   
   Written content will attract more visitors to your store when they are looking for information on your particular theme.
